Question:

209 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the Cottage School in Wexford town; the status of the proposal to establish a special unit for three children with autism at Scoil Mhuire, Coolcotts, Wexford; the status of the application for capital funding in respect of additional accommodation at Scoil Mhuire to enable it to incorporate a special unit for three children with autism; when copies of the psychological assessment of these children carried out by his Department will be provided to the parents of these children; if a decision has been made on staffing levels for the special unit; the progress which has been made towards the establishment of a multi-disciplinary team in relation to the education of these children; if the option of exploring other teaching methodologies as well as the ABA system will remain available to parents in consultation with the multi-disciplinary team; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4980/02]

The application in question is the subject of detailed discussions between officials of my Department, the national educational psychological service and representatives of the parents of the children in question.

I am hopeful that these discussions will lead to a positive outcome so that the necessary supports can be put in place as speedily as possible.
