Vol. 548 No. 3

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Strength.

Ivor Callely

Question:

115 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Defence the number of ex-service men who served in the armed forces in a voluntary capacity; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4112/02]

All personnel who are currently serving or who have served in the Defence Forces do so on a voluntary basis. Details on the numbers who have served are not readily available to the military authorities who indicate that they do not have the resources to research data back to the time of the national volunteers in 1913.
