Vol. 548 No. 4

Written Answers. - Pharmacy Regulations.

Michael Creed

Question:

147 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Health and Children if, as a result of his deregulation of the pharmacy sector, a pharmacy graduate who has qualified from outside the EU can be entitled to own, open and manage a pharmacy here; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5071/02]

The effect of the revocation of the Health (Community Pharmacy Contractor Agreement) Regulations, 1996, S.I. No. 152 of 1996, for the awarding of new community pharmacy contracts is that there are no restrictions on granting new contracts in terms of location, population or viability of existing pharmacies. The revocation does not affect the position of pharmacists who qualified outside the EU.
