Vol. 548 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

John Ellis

Question:

214 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department will appoint a full-time resource teacher to a school (details supplied) in County Sligo. [5104/02]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that the school in question has been allocated part-time resource teaching support for all eligible pupils. The level of resource teacher support currently allocated for pupils in the school is based on their assessed needs. It does not meet the requirement for the allocation of a full-time resource teacher post for the school.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

215 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received an application for funding to run an all-Irish section within a school (details supplied) in County Offaly; the date the application was received; when the school principal will receive a decision; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5105/02]

Jack Wall

Question:

216 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding an application for funding to run an all-Irish section within a school (details supplied) in County Offaly, starting in September 2002; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5106/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 215 and 216 together.

It is my Department's policy to support the provision of all-Irish school facilities at primary and second level in areas outside the Gaeltacht regions, where a demand for such provision is demonstrated and no alternative exists within a reasonable distance. An application to establish an all-Irish unit, with effect from September, 2002, at the school referred to by the Deputies, was received in the planning and building unit of my Department on 12 December 2001. The application is being considered at present, and a decision on the matter will be made, and notified to the school management authorities as soon as possible.
