Vol. 548 No. 5

Written Answers. - Speech Therapy Service.

Michael Ring

Question:

224 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will ascertain the Western Health Board's plans regarding the lack of a speech and language therapist in the north-west region of County Mayo; when a therapist will be allocated to the area; and the number of adults and children who need this service in the north west region. [5311/02]

The provision of health related services, including speech and language therapy, to people with physical and sensory disabilities is a matter for the Eastern Regional Health Authority and the health boards in the first instance. As requested, a copy of the Deputy's question has been referred to the chief executive officer of the Western Health Board with a request that she examine the matter and reply directly to the Deputy, as a matter of urgency.

Question:

225 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children if additional speech and language therapy will be provided to a person (details supplied) in County Mayo. [5312/02]

Responsibility for the provision of services to persons with an intellectual disability and those with autism in the Mayo area rests with the Western Health Board. My Department has, therefore, asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and reply to him directly.
