Vol. 548 No. 5

Written Answers. - Pension Provisions.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

58 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Finance the progress made by the implementation group on the report of the Commission on Public Service Pensions; the number of occasions on which the group has met; when he expects the group to report; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5555/02]

The implementation working group comprising representatives from the public service unions and relevant Departments has been established. It held its first meeting on 10 January and one of the decisions made was to establish two sub-groups. The main sub-group met on 31 January and its next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, 21 February. The working group hopes to be in a position to report within the next six months.

Parallel structures, subject to the same timeframe and remit, are being established in the case of the Garda Síochána and the Defence Forces. My Department is also finalising arrangements for the involvement of pensioners in the working group process. A preliminary meeting was held with pensioner group representatives on 11 December 2001.
