Vol. 548 No. 5

Written Answers. - Tax Receipts.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

74 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance if trends have been established regarding receipts from the various forms of taxation in 2002; if it is possible to forecast the end of year situation and any likely budgetary changes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5543/02]

The details of the tax receipts for January are set out in the Exchequer Statement published by my Department on 4 February and is available on my Department's website. Overall tax receipts for the month of January totalled €2,545 million which represented a decrease of 5.7% on January 2001. Receipts for one month should not be regarded as an indicator of a trend for the year as a whole. The budget day target for total tax revenue was €30,328 million. I have no basis to change this at present.
