Vol. 549 No. 1

Written Answers. - Consultant Appointments.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

164 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Health and Children the position regarding the appointment of a consultant physician, with a special interest in endocrinology, to Waterford Regional Hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6000/02]

The provision of services, including the appointment of consultant staff at Waterford Regional Hospital, is a matter for the South-Eastern Health Board, in the first instance. I am pleased to advise the Deputy that I have recently given financial approval to the board for the appointment of a consultant physician with a special interest endocrinology there. The filling of the post is a matter for the South-Eastern Health Board. My Department has, therefore, asked the chief executive officer at the board to look into the matter and reply directly to the Deputy.
