Vol. 549 No. 1

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Appeals.

Michael Ring

Question:

192 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when an appeal will be heard in relation to an application for a carer's allowance for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo. [5929/02]

The person's application for carer's allowance was disallowed by a deciding officer on the grounds that the care recipient was not in need of full-time care and attention. The papers in connection with the appeal in this case are being prepared and the social welfare appeals office will be in touch with the person directly in this regard. Under social welfare legislation decisions in relation to claims must be made by deciding officers and appeals officers. These officers are statutorily appointed and I have no role in regard to making such decisions.
