Vol. 549 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Michael Ring

Question:

291 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding a sewerage scheme (details supplied) in County Mayo. [6471/02]

A brief for the Belmullet sewerage scheme was submitted to my Department by Mayo County Council in 1992 but has not been approved. The scheme was tenth on the list of sewerage schemes submitted by the council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the water services investment programme, 2000-02, announced in July 2000. Given the priority rating afforded to the scheme by the council, the level of competing demand and the funding available, it has not been possible to include it in the programme.

Question:

292 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding a sewerage scheme (details supplied) in County Mayo. [6472/02]

I approved funding for the upgrading of the Louisburgh sewage treatment plant and the extension of the scheme on the Westport Road, Louisburgh, under the serviced land initiative in January 2001. The extension on the Westport Road is complete and Mayo County Council has advertised for tenders for the treatment plant.
