Vol. 549 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

403 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will appoint a full time resource teacher to a school (details supplied) in County Cork. [6453/02]

My Department allocates resource posts to second level schools to cater for special needs pupils. Applications for such support are made to my Department by the relevant school authorities. Each case is considered on its merits and determined on the advice of the psychological service.

To date, my Department has not received an application from the school authority in question for a resource teaching post. If such an application is received, it will be referred to the psychological service for a report and, as soon as the report has been received and considered, my Department will notify the school authority of the decision.

In view of the Deputy's inquiry I have made arrangements to have the school contacted to establish the position.
