Vol. 550 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Michael Creed

Question:

567 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education and Science the standards his Department lays down for school play areas; if a school (details supplied) in County Donegal meets these required standards; and if not, his proposals to provide funds to upgrade the play area at this school. [7563/02]

The planning guidelines for primary schools in operation for new building projects since January 2000 make provision for hard play areas and ball courts ranging in size from 785 square metres to in excess of 1,600 square metres, depending on the anticipated enrolment figures. My Department expects to be in a position during this year to give further consideration to an application from the school referred to by the Deputy for an improved play area as part of the expanded building programme.
