Vol. 550 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Billy Timmins

Question:

596 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the use of seat belts on school buses; if this safety recommendation can be put in place as speedily as possible; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7761/02]

The question of the seating arrangements and seat belts on school buses is being considered in the context of a safety report being prepared by the school transport section of my Department together with Bus Éireann and the Department of the Environment and Local Government. The report, which is nearing completion, will be made available to all interested parties and submissions will be invited from the public. The provision of seat belts will be reviewed in the light of the report and submissions.
