Vol. 550 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Liam Aylward

Question:

403 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will instruct the South-Eastern Health Board to arrange for an occupational therapist to allow Carlow County Council proceed with the disabled persons grant application of a person (details supplied) which is with that office since June 2001; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8911/02]

As I have previously informed the Deputy, the provision of the disabled person's grant to enable housing modifications to be made to the homes of disabled persons is entirely a matter for the Department of Environment and Local Government and such grants are administered through the relevant local authority. Use of health board staff such as occupational therapists to provide assessments for this scheme is a matter for discussion between the relevant local authorities and health boards. A copy of the Deputy's question has been referred to the chief executive officer of the South Eastern Health Board for his attention and direct reply to the Deputy.
