Vol. 550 No. 4

Written Answers. - Road Safety.

Michael Ring

Question:

472 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government further to Parliamentary Question No. 138 of 28 February 2002, the locations of lay-bys from Dublin to Ballina, County Mayo, and from Donegal to Waterford on all main primary routes; and the number of lay-bys in each county. [8780/02]

Responsibility for providing lay-bys on national roads rests with the National Roads Authority in co-operation with local authorities as part of their overall responsibility for the construction and maintenance of national roads under the Roads Act, 1993. Commercial truck stops and other sites providing stopping facilities for drivers of heavy goods vehicles and motorists are provided by the private sector.

Some of the information requested in the question should be available from the NRA, telephone: 01-660 2511, and may appropriately be sought from NRA.
