Vol. 550 No. 4

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Tony Gregory

Question:

640 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the response of the Garda authorities to the ongoing requests from a residents association (details supplied) in Dublin 7 for more regular Garda foot patrols by community Gardaí in their area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9530/02]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, which are responsible for the detailed allocation of resources to individual areas, that Riverstown is located in the Cabra sub-district. The area is subject to foot patrols from members of the community policing unit in Cabra, which consists of three members. The community policing unit is supplemented from members attached to other units such as the detective unit, divisional task force, divisional traffic unit and K district drug unit.

I am further informed that local Garda management is satisfied that these patrols are sufficient to meet the policing needs of the area and that they are monitored on a regular basis by the inspector in charge of Cabra. However, the situation will be kept under review and when additional manpower next becomes available the needs of the Cabra sub-district will be fully considered within the context of the needs of Garda districts throughout the country.
