Vol. 550 No. 5

Written Answers. - Coastal Protection.

Jackie Healy-Rae

Question:

83 Mr. Healy-Rae asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the provision he has made for repairs to the embankment where the high tide broke the banks on the east side of Cromane at Glaise and Lower Cromane, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9630/02]

Primary responsibility for coast protection works rest with the property owner, be that a local authority or a private individual. In October 2001, my Department wrote to all coastal local authorities inviting proposals for consideration in the context of the 2002 coast protection programme. My Department has no proposals from Kerry County Council for repairs to the embankment on the east side of Cromane at Glaise and Lower Cromane, County Kerry. Careful consideration will be given to any proposal which the local authority wishes to put forward for the location.
