Question:

109 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the role of the Shannon Fisheries Board in relation to current development; and if their role is tourism driven or conservation driven. [9750/02]

The statutory functions of the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board are set out in section 11 of the Fisheries Act, 1980, amended by section 8 of the Fisheries (Amendment) Act, 1999. These functions include, inter alia, the management, conservation, protection and development of the fisheries in the region and the promotion and marketing of angling for salmon, trout, coarse fish and sea fish.
