Vol. 551 No. 2

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Ivor Callely

Question:

126 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the funding available from his Department for required repairs to Doneen Pier, Kilshane, Bantry, County Cork; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10132/02]

Doneen Pier, Kilshane, Bantry is owned by Cork County Council and responsibility for its repair and maintenance rests with the local authority in the first instance. In 2001 my Department approved the allocation of financial assistance of £67,500, €85,707.32 to Cork County Council towards damage repairs to Doneen Pier costing a total of £90,000, €114,276.42. The council did not proceed with the project in 2001. The question of providing grant aid for the project in the current year is under consideration in the context of the funding available and overall national priorities.
