Question:

140 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the areas of coastal erosion throughout the country which have to date been brought to his attention; his plans to deal with the issue; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10311/02]

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 139 and 140 together.

In October 2001 my Department wrote to all coastal local authorities requesting proposals for consideration in the context of the 2002 coastal protection programme. Proposals were submitted in respect of works in 14 counties and have been assessed by my Department. A total of €4 million has been provided in my Department's Estimate for the 2002 coastal protection programme and I intend to announce the details of allocations under the programme shortly.
