Question:

265 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department will intervene with Bus Éireann to examine if a bus route can be re-directed (details supplied); if he will sanction a reduction of payment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10891/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 262 and 265 together.

The school bus service available to the family in question was examined by my Department in November 2001. It was considered that a re-routing was not warranted as the family had a level of service within Department guidelines. There is provision for families having a level of service within guidelines to pay for re-routing, where this is feasible. Payment is made direct to Bus Éireann for this service. The family availed of this option. It is not open to me to sanction a reduction of payment in these circumstances.
