Vol. 552 No. 4

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Enda Kenny

Question:

124 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if any group water scheme in County Mayo has been nominated for upgrading of water quality and pipe reconstruction under the design, build and operate system; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12784/02]

I understand that improvements to a number of group water schemes in County Mayo are proposed, using design, build, operate – DBO – procurement. Under the devolved rural water programme, the prioritisation and approval of individual group scheme proposals for grant purposes are a matter for the local authority.

Enda Kenny

Question:

125 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the nature of the approval for Castlebar environs sewerage scheme following the announcement of funding for major water and sewerage schemes; the extent of moneys approved; when commencement will take place; if he will confirm inclusion of certain schemes (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12785/02]

Castlebar environs sewerage scheme, at an estimated cost of €31.7 million, is included in my Department's Water Services Investment Programme 2002-2004 as a scheme to commence construction this year. I have already given approval for some advance elements of the scheme to proceed.

I understand that the areas referred to were not included in Mayo County Council's preliminary report for the scheme, which I approved in 1997. A decision on the overall scope of the scheme, and the areas to be served by it, will be made as soon as possible following full consideration by my Department of the design review report, contract drawings and other more recent proposals relating to the advancement of the scheme submitted by the council.
