Vol. 552 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

Chris Flood

Question:

167 Mr. Flood asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the circumstances whereby part of St. Thomas's junior national school, Jobstown, Tallaght, Dublin 24 was damaged by fire; his proposals to ensure repairs are carried out without delay; if he will accede to the request of staff and parents for the provision of security to protect this school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12729/02]

Records indicate that my Department received a request from the authorities of St. Thomas' junior national school for grant-aid towards a roof replacement. I am pleased to inform the Deputy that my Department recently gave approval to the school authorities to seek tenders for this work.

My Department's building unit does not appear to have any other applications on hand for grant-aid towards additional works to this school. In relation to fire damage, it is the responsibility of the school authorities to pursue the matter with their insurance company.
