226 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance the reason temporary death certificates are not acceptable to his Department in approving pensions and so on for the next of kin of deceased employees; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13382/02]
My Department has no difficulty in accepting temporary death certificates for approving and paying pensions for the spouses of deceased civil servants. However, in notifying the beneficiary of the pension entitlements, my Department requests that the death certificate should be forwarded when it becomes available.
