Vol. 553 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

284 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science if a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny is on the correct rate of pay; if he will arrange to have all arrears due paid; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13037/02]

Special needs assistants in secondary schools are employed and paid by the management authority of the school in which they are employed. My Department reimburses the school authority with the costs of approved posts.

Last April an official advised the school of the correct payment procedures in the case to which the Deputy refers and it was a matter for the school authority to arrange for the person in question to be paid in accordance with agreed rates. An official has again contacted the school and has been given to understand that the matter is now in hand.
