Vol. 553 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Willie Penrose

Question:

400 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Education and Science if transport can be provided to Wilson's Hospital School, Multyfarnham, for a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath for whom public transport is not available; and if the necessary financial assistance will be provided to this person in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13865/02]

An application for a remote area grant, in respect of the pupil in question, was made on 16 April 2002. A grant was sanctioned for the period from the commencement of the school year in September 2001 and is normally paid at the end of each school year.

The family have been advised to forward a statement of the number of days the pupil attended in the 2001-02 school year. On receipt of the statement of attendance, the remote area grant will be issued as a matter of urgency.
