Vol. 553 No. 2

Written Answers. - Chiropody Services.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

463 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason for the difference between the salary of part-time temporary chiropodists with those serving with the health board; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13087/02]

I presume that the Deputy is referring to the distinction between chiropodists directly employed usually on a full-time basis in the health service and those providing chiropody services on a part-time, sessional basis. As is the case for other health and social care professions, chiropodists working on a sessional basis are remunerated by means of fee payments per session, treatment or visit completed, as appropriate, while directly employed personnel are paid according to the appropriate Department of Health and Children pay scale.
