Vol. 553 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospitals Building Programme.

Finian McGrath

Question:

479 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Health and Children the position regarding the provision of funds for the proposed extension of the orthopaedic hospital in Clontarf, Dublin 3; and if funding will be provided to improve patient care in the service. [13170/02]

In October 2000 my Department approved the establishment of a project team for a major capital development at the Incorporated Orthopaedic Hospital, Clontarf. A brief for this is now complete. The proposed development includes the replacement of 32 orthopaedic rehabilitation beds and the relocation of paramedical services, outpatients department and associated clinical and non-clinical services. This will increase the total bed complement of the hospital from 104 to 160 beds. My Department is at present considering this proposal in the context of advancing projects generally under the National Development Plan 2000-2006.
