Vol. 553 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Dan Neville

Question:

551 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Health and Children when the orthopaedic ward at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital, Limerick built over five years ago will be opened. [13663/02]

I have provided funding under the bed capacity initiative of €2 million in 2002, full year cost €4 million, to open the additional 29 beds in the new orthopaedic trauma ward at Limerick Regional Hospital. I understand from the Mid-Western Health Board that the recruitment process for staff is under way and subject to this, they will be brought into use on a phased basis commencing in July this year.
