Vol. 553 No. 2

Written Answers. - Death Certificates.

Question:

602 Mr. Ahern asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the position in relation to temporary death certificates approved and issued by the Coroner's Office to assist families in progressing the affairs of their deceased loved ones; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13383/02]

Arising from the recommendations of the report of the working group on the review of the Coroner Service, I intend to put these temporary death certificates on a statutory basis. The criteria for issuing such certificates are currently being examined in detail by a rules committee who are carrying out preparatory work for the proposed new legislation.
