Vol. 553 No. 2

Written Answers. - Garda Operations.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

619 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if gardaí intercepted a parcel of letters addressed to Members of the House of the Oireachtas on 23 November 2001, under special security arrangements at Leinster House introduced as a result of the anthrax scare; the reason the letters were not sent on to the Members of the Houses of the Oireachtas to whom they were addressed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13604/02]

I am informed that security personnel at Leinster House became suspicious of these letters and handed them over to the Garda authorities. I have asked the Garda authorities for a full report in this matter and will communicate with the Deputy once this has been received.
