Vol. 553 No. 2

Written Answers. - Waste Management.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

635 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government his legislative proposals with regard to the use of compulsory purchase orders in the matter of the acquisition of land and buildings in relation to sites for landfills; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13500/02]

A local authority may acquire land by agreement or compulsorily for the purpose of performing any of its functions including the acquisition of sites for landfills. The activation of the procedures for the compulsory purchase of land is for local authorities themselves, and my Department has no function in the matter.
