Vol. 553 No. 2

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Michael Ring

Question:

653 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands when the extension to a pier (details supplied) in County Mayo will commence; if the project has been delayed; and if so, the reason therefor. [13467/02]

At the request of my Department, Mayo County Council employed the consultants Malachy Walsh and Partners to prepare a preliminary report on the development of harbour facilities on the island referred to by the Deputy. This report was completed and presented to my Department earlier this year. As a result of the recommendations contained therein, my Department recently asked Mayo County Council to proceed with the preparation of contract documents for the project and these are expected to be completed before the end of this month. This matter will then be considered further in the context of other applications on hand and the funding available to me for island capital projects. There has been no undue delay in the progression of this project to its current status.
