Vol. 553 No. 2

Written Answers. - Summer Jobs Scheme.

Billy Timmins

Question:

690 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if she will consider permitting a person on lone parent's allowance to partake in the student summer scheme; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13854/02]

The purpose of the students summer jobs scheme is to provide income support during the summer holiday period to third level students from less well-off families who are disqualified by legislation from receiving unemployment assistance.

There are no plans to extend the scheme to those in receipt of one parent family payment, as a range of employment supports already exist for people in this group.
