Vol. 553 No. 2

Written Answers. - Company Closures.

Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

133 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if, in regard to her public statement of 8 May 2002 regarding the fire at a company (details supplied), the discussions she has had with Government colleagues with a view to safeguarding the future of the plant; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13646/02]

The company is currently examining the most appropriate means of rebuilding and reopening its plant in County Roscommon. However, it could be some time before final decisions are taken.

In an effort to safeguard its workforce, the company has redeployed about 150 staff to its two other processing facilities in Edenderry and Roscrea. The remaining 85 people continue to be employed in Rooskey.

In addition, discussions have taken place between Enterprise Ireland and the company in relation to sourcing temporary facilities. However, the main thrust of activity is towards allowing the company to recommence activities within their facility in County Roscommon at the earliest opportunity.
