Question:

179 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Finance the functions it is proposed to transfer from the Department of Agriculture and Food to the new Department of Arts, Tourism and Sport; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13660/02]

Section 6(1) of the Ministers and Secretaries (Amendment) Act, 1939, permits the Government to transfer, by order, functions from one Minister or Department to another and to change the name and title of the Ministers and Departments.

The Horse and Greyhound Racing (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order, 2002, S.I. No. 297 of 2002, transferred the functions vested in the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development by or under: the Greyhound Industry Act, 1958 – No. 12 of 1958; the Greyhound Industry (Amendment) Act, 1993 – No. 37 of 1993; the Irish Horseracing Industry Act, 1994 – No. 18 of 1994; the Horse and Greyhound Racing (Betting Charges and Levies) Act, 1999 – No. 24 of 1999; the Horse and Greyhound Racing Act, 2001 – No. 20 of 2001; and the Horseracing Ireland (Membership) Act, 2001 – No. 46 of 2001 to the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation. This order is effective from 18 June 2002.
