Vol. 553 No. 5

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Richard Bruton

Question:

242 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the status of an extension of the CABAS Project, Greendale Road school, Raheny, Dublin 5; and if he has made the necessary resources available for this extension in view of the fact there are many children awaiting places. [14602/02]

At a recent meeting with parents representing the children in question, my Department confirmed its agreement in principle to fund an expansion of the CABAS Project. It was indicated that this agreement is subject to my Department being satisfied, on the basis of professional assessment reports, that placement in the facility in question represents an appropriate response to the needs of each of the children involved.

Assessment reports in respect of some of the children involved have already been submitted to my Department and the remaining assessment reports are expected shortly. Once the assessment reports have been considered, my Department will be in further contact with the CABAS Project and the parents involved to progress this development.
