Vol. 553 No. 5

Written Answers. - Services for People with Disabilities.

John McGuinness

Question:

280 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children the reasons for the delay in providing an occupational therapist's report in the name of a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny for the disabled person's grant scheme who applied almost two years ago. [14361/02]

As I have previously informed the Deputy, the provision of the disabled persons grant to enable housing modifications to be made to the homes of disabled persons is entirely a matter for the Department of the Environment and Local Government and such grants are administered through the relevant local authority. Use of health board staff, that is, occupational therapists, to provide assessments for this scheme is a matter for discussion between the relevant local authorities and health boards. A copy of the Deputy's question has been referred to the chief executive officer of the South Eastern Health Board for his attention and direct reply to the Deputy.
