Services for eligible patients at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin, are provided under an arrangement with the Eastern Regional Health Authority. My Department has, therefore, asked the regional chief executive of the authority to investigate the position in relation to this case and to reply to the Deputy directly.

Question:284 Mr. Ardagh asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will immediately appoint a consultant urologist to Our Lady's Hospital, Crumlin, to carry out bladder reconstruction sur gery for persons similar to a person (details supplied). [14471/02]
Responsibility for the provision of hospital services to residents of Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow rests with the Eastern Regional Health Authority. I have made inquiries of the authority in relation to the matter raised by the Deputy and I understand that the authority has requested that the hospital via appropriate clinical experts, develop a care plan which will satisfy the urgent needs of the patient referred to by the Deputy. I am further informed that this care plan should draw on the resources available to the hospital but where external resources may be required these should be identified and incorporated into the care plan. I expect that the treatment of the patient concerned will proceed without interruption.

Question:285 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason an appointment was cancelled on two occasions for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo; the way in which this can occur; and if this person will be called for an appointment on 11 July 2002. [14472/02]
The provision of services is a matter for the Western Health board in this instance. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the board to write directly to the Deputy with the information he has requested.
