Vol. 553 No. 5

Written Answers. - Turf Cutting.

Michael Ring

Question:

365 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when a person (details supplied) in County Galway will receive payment of compensation for being prevented from cutting turf on his land. [14396/02]

Staff of Dúchas, the heritage service, have examined this location to examine the feasibility of continued turf cutting there. It was found that cutting should not be allowed in any form on part of this land but some cutting could be accommodated on another part, but not with a sausage machine. The named person was informed of this and the level of compensation available has been outlined to him together with the option of arbitration in the event that he is not satisfied with this.
