Vol. 553 No. 5

Written Answers. - Departmental Properties.

Bernard Allen

Question:

153 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Defence if his Department is selling lands at Collins Barracks, Cork; and if he will take into consideration the importance of the pitch and putt course and playing fields to the local communities. [14395/02]

The question of the sale of property surplus to military requirements is under ongoing examination to fund much needed investment to meet the equipment and infrastructure needs of the Defence Forces.

Should it be decided to dispose of the property referred to by the Deputy I will take account of the issue raised in his question.

Paul McGrath

Question:

154 Mr. P. McGrath asked the Minister for Defence the situation concerning the agreement with Westmeath County Council to rebuild part of the boundary wall at Columb Barracks, Mullingar, County Westmeath. [14552/02]

As part of an agreement with Westmeath County Council in 1997, the council undertook, on a shared cost basis, to rebuild part of the boundary wall. It is understood the council is currently in negotiation with a developer with regard to an entrance to a nearby housing estate which will have an affect on the realignment of the road and for this reason the council to date has not proceeded with the agreement referred to.
