Vol. 553 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Joan Burton

Question:

175 Ms Burton asked the Minister for Education and Science when St. Phillips National School, Mountview, Dublin 15 will be provided with the additional resources requested by the board of management, in particular a resource teacher to assist pupils with behavioural and emotional difficulties and financial assistance to help with necessary refurbishment in the school; and if the retention of a resource teacher for non-national pupils can be allowed. [14928/02]

My Department approved two full-time resource teacher posts at St. Philip's Senior National School recently to cater for the needs of the pupils in question. The school authorities have been notified.

On the question of refurbishment, my Department will be in contact with the school authorities as quickly as possible. My Department's inspectorate is currently reviewing the position regarding the retention of a resource teacher for non-national pupils. My officials will be in contact with the school authorities when this review has been completed.
