Vol. 553 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Finian McGrath

Question:

179 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will assist Scoil Mhaoilsheachlainne Éadan Mór, Baile Átha Cliath 5 in making a temporary appointment; and if the children, parents and staff will be treated in a fair manner. [14932/02]

The staffing of a national school for a school year is determined by the enrolment in the school on 30 September of the previous year. This is in accordance with an agreement on staffing entered into between the Government and the education partners. The enrolment of this school on 30 September, 2001 was 207 pupils which warrants a staffing of a principal and seven mainstream class teachers for the 2002-03 school year.

The school is participating in Giving Children An Even Break programme. The school authorities may make a submission to special education section 2 of my Department if they cannot adhere to the maximum class size guidelines for schools participating in the programme with the teaching staff allocated for the 2002-03 school year.
