Vol. 553 No. 6

Written Answers. - Lap Dancing Clubs.

Seán Power

Question:

242 Mr. S. Power asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his views on the number of lap dancing clubs which have recently opened; if he intends to introduce measures which would curtail the growth of such establishments and reduce the numbers of sites that could be regarded as suitable for this type of activity; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14897/02]

I can inform the Deputy that the Garda Síochána are currently aware of approximately 15 premises where the activity referred to takes place and that these premises are subjected to ongoing Garda supervision to ensure compliance with existing legislation.

With regard to the question of measures to curtail the growth of such activity, I can inform the Deputy that any future proposals I may have in relation to the question of regulation of such activity will be brought before the Government and announced in the usual way.
