248 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if an application for first registration (details supplied) which was lodged on 1 December 2000, can be expedited in view of the fact the land which is the subject matter of the dealing is under contract for sale and time is of the essence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I am informed by the Registrar of Titles that this is an application for first registration and under section 49, i.e. acquisition of title by virtue of long possession, of the Registration of Title Act, 1964 which was lodged on 1 December 2000. Dealing number D2000XS011876N refers. I understand that due to their complicated nature, applications for first registration and section 49 applications, which require detailed examination of claims for registration as owners, can take some time to process.
I am further informed that queries issued to the lodging solicitors on 14 June 2002 and the application cannot proceed until these queries have been satisfactorily resolved. However, I can assure the Deputy that, on receipt of a satisfactory reply, the matter will receive further attention in the Land Registry.
