Vol. 553 No. 6

Written Answers. - National Education Welfare Board.

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

66 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Education and Science when steps will be taken to appoint a new chief executive officer for the National Education Welfare Board following the resignation of a person (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14738/02]

As a statutory agency, the National Educational Welfare Board is responsible for the appointment of its staff. Following the resignation of the chief executive designate, the NEWB requested my Department to invite applications from serving senior officers within my Department with a view to filling the post as quickly as possible on a temporary basis. Following a competitive interview a candidate has been recommended for appointment. My Department will facilitate the board in so far as possible in order to expedite the appointment.
