Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Urban Renewal Schemes.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

1572 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government his plans to have an urban renewal scheme available for Ballinasloe, County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16900/02]

The selection of towns under the town renewal scheme was a matter for individual county councils in accordance with a selection formula contained in the scheme guidelines and which was based on the number of eligible towns in the various counties. Under this formula, Galway County Council could select a maximum of five towns for which plans could be submitted: Ballinasloe was not one of the towns selected by Galway County Council and consequently could not be considered for designation under the scheme.

There are no proposals to make further designations under the town renewal scheme, which runs until 31 December 2003.
