Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Tax Credits.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

404 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Finance if tax credits can be transferred from one spouse to another in the case of persons (details supplied) in County Cork. [15698/02]

Where a married couple are jointly assessed for income tax, and one spouse leaves employment, unused tax credits may be transferred to the other spouse who remains in employment.

The position is that on 23 September 2002 the inspector revised the taxpayer's tax credits to include his wife's unused tax credits. He also increased the taxpayer's standard rate cut-off point to the maximum available to a married couple with one income.
