Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Tax Allowances.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

423 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance when a tax free allowance will issue in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16448/02]

A person who is starting his or her first employment in the State must: (i) obtain a personal public service, PPS, number from the Department of Social and Family Affairs; and (ii) complete an application for a certificate of tax credits and standard rate cut-off point, Form 12A. Form 12A can obtained by telephoning 01 865 5002. The completed Form 12A should be sent to the inspector of taxes who on receipt will issue a certificate of tax credits, which have replaced tax-free allowances, as quickly as possible.

The person to whom the Deputy refers does not seem to have been issued with a PPS number. The issuing of a PPS number is a matter for the Minister for Social and Family Affairs.
