Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Autism Services.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

528 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding funding for a proposed autism centre for the visually impaired on foot of the amalgamation of St. Joseph's in Drumcondra and St. Mary's in Merrion Road; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15646/02]

There are no proposals to develop an autism centre for the visually impaired.

Arising from the report of a planning group which was established to consider proposals for the development of a national centre for the visually impaired, my Department has engaged a project team to consider an overall development strategy for the implementation of the planning group's report. The report of the project team is expected shortly. When this report is received my Department will consider the matter further.
